From the classroom to the field : a concrete case of recontextualization

Abstract

"Setting up a weather station in extreme conditions, whether in Nunavik or in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of over 4,000 meters, is no small feat. But that’s exactly what the Engineering Physics Technology (EPT) students at Cégep André-Laurendeau have done as part of their program.

Within this issue of Pédagogie collégiale, the article "Teachers, Technicians... and a Sage to Ensure Transfer" presents the CDR model (contextualization - decontextualization - recontextualization) used by the program’s teaching staff to support sustainable, transferable learning among students. Our article focuses on the last step of this model: recontextualization, through the concrete experiences of students in the field, in particular that of Laurence Labrecque, an EPT student. How does what she has learned in the classroom apply to real-life situations? What additional competencies has she developed on these expeditions? And above all, are the results of the research ultimately confined to the intricacies of a Teams team, or have they found a real echo in the field?" -- AQPC
